Rodrigo hears from Didith that Leslie, the showgirl, is beginning to think that she is Rodrigo’s girlfriend. The young man, however, tells Didith that he never intended for Leslie to fall for him, but says that he needs more time to make Margarita more jealous. Afterwards, Margarita hears Didith calling out from their house, and Margarita learns that Rodrigo is eloping with Leslie. Margarita rushes to Rodrigo’s house and tells him that he is being a fool. Rodrigo, however, says that since Margarita doesn’t love him, it is better for him to go with Leslie. Margarita then surprises Rodrigo by admitting that she loves him, and the two end up in a kiss.

Rodrigo walks Margarita to a building for her job interview. He tells her that he will wait for her in a nearby cafe after her interview so they can have dinner together. Then in a private room, Margarita meets the businessman friend of her Tita Magda. Believing that it is a job interview, the lady tries to be polite with the businessman despite being uncomfortable with the situation. The man tells Margarita that he is willing to help her and her family, no matter what the price is, and the man starts making advances at her. The man then offers Margarita a glass of red wine, and after Margarita takes a sip, she falls unconscious.

Margarita later wakes up in the bed fully naked, and a money is left by her side. The young lady could only cry after the unfortunate incident. How will this affect Margarita? Will she tell Rodrigo that she was raped?

Now that they are both young adults, Rodrigo continues to stand by Margarita as she and her brothers endure Magda’s abuses. Robbie, already a teenager, tries to convince his older sister that they should move out. Gabby, their youngest, helps out by working in Magda’s sari-sari store.

While studying high school, Margarita works as a sales lady in a shoe store. Rodrigo, on the other hand, accepts sidelines as a handy man and still dreams of going to the police academy someday. Rodrigo begins to fall for his bestfriend, but Margarita remains clueless about his feelings. One night, Rodrigo tells Margarita that he loves her, but the lady walks out in surprise. Margarita tells Rodrigo that he is just ruining their friendship and their mutual vow of not ever becoming a fool for love. Margarita then rejects Rodrigo’s proposal of love.

Totally heartbroken, Rodrigo confides to his friend, Didith, an ex-showgirl. Rodrigo conspires with Didith, using one of her showgirl friends, to make Margarita jealous. At home, Magda tells Margarita that she has a friend who knows a businessman who might have a job for her.

Just when Margarita is about to tell Rodrigo about it, a girl who claims to be Rodrigo’s girlfriend, tells Margarita to back off. Instead of feeling bad, Rodrigo becomes happy when he sees that Margarita is jealous. That same night, when Margarita is on her way home from school, the said showgirl and her friends corner Margarita on a dark street. Margarita tells them to leave her alone, but the girl further threatens her.

At the hospital, Magda blames the children after Gary is bitten by Jessica’s dog. The police arrives and tells Gary that he is no position to file a complaint. The following morning, Margarita and Rodrigo return to Robert’s house, but they find out that Robert and Jessica have left and went to the US.

Gary secretly seeks Rodrigo’s help in setting a small party for Margarita’s birthday. Gary talks to his boss at the toy store if he could get the doll and pay for it in his next salary. But the boss refuses, and realizing that Gary is more of a liability in his business, the boss fires Gary from work.

At night, Rodrigo takes Margarita to the simple dinner he and Gary prepared. Gary later arrives and surprises Margarita with the beautiful doll. Margarita, however, tells Gary that her true birthday wish is a wheelchair for him. Margarita thanks Gary for doing everything that her real father failed to do.

After Gary excuses himself, he is met by the owners of the store. Apparently, the manager is angry after one doll went missing from the store. The group of men beat Gary up, and only left when Margarita and Rodrigo arrive and call for help. Gary later dies from the beating, and Margarita could only cry beside her Tito Gary.

Magda blames the children for Gary’s death and sends them out of the house. But after Margarita begs for Magda to let them stay, Magda regretfully agrees. In exchange of their stay, Margarita and Robbie agree to work for Magda.

Margarita and her brothers live under the maltreatment of Magda. Amidst all her sufferings, Margarita only has Rodrigo as her friend. Years pass by, and Margarita and Rodrigo both grow as young adults. What fate awaits them as they face the tragic life on their own?

After Adora falls off the cliff, Bernard tells Jessica that they should call for help, but Jessica forbids her younger brother from speaking to anyone about the incident. Jessica flees the scene with Bernard and Adora’s baby. Meanwhile, Margarita and Robert are both worried about their mother as Gary has not yet heard anything about Adora. The police arrive and talks to Gary. The cops later take Gary and Margarita to a crime scene where they see Adora’s bloody remains.

At home, the police relate to Gary and the children the preliminary findings leading to Adora’s death. The police say that Adora may have killed herself when she felt guilty for selling the baby. But at the wake, Margarita doubts that her mother committed suicide. The young girl believes that their mother was murdered.

Now that Adora is dead, Gary takes the children to his care. He takes Margarita and her younger brothers to his house, but Gary’s older sister, Magda, complains about the children staying at their house. Gary, however, tells Magda that he will be the one to support the children.

The following morning, Gary leaves to find a job, hence, the kids are left to Magda’s care. But Magda, not wanting the children to stay there in the first place, forces them to clean the house. Gary comes home to find the kids working at home and not at school. He tells the kids to go the school and leaves Magda to take care of Gabby.

Margarita goes to her father as she believes that it was her father who killed her mother and later took their baby sister. Robert forces Margarita out of the house and tells her not to come back again. Rodrigo rushes to Margarita’s side before Robert hurts her any further.

Margarita and Rodrigo goes to Gary, and Gary later sees Margarita’s bruise in the face. Margarita tries to lie, but Rodrigo tells Gary that Robert hurt Margarita. At night, Gary rushes to Robert’s house and threatens Robert not to hurt Margarita again. Gary beats Robert up, but Jessica arrives unties their big pet dog. The dog then attacks Gary and bites him in the leg.

Margarita goes to her father and tells him that their mother has cancer. But Jessica sends Margarita away for the house. Robert gives his daughter a few cash and later tells her to stop bothering him. At night in the chapel, Gary comforts Margarita as the child worries about her mother. Gary has ran out of people to ask help for, but still promises to do everything he can to support Adora’s chemotherapy.

The following morning, Adora insists to deliver some of the laundry. Carrying her newborn baby, Adora goes to a house nearby Robert and Jessica’s residence. Margarita and Robert later follows their mother, and Margarita makes sure that her mother does not see that their father is living there with another woman. Afterwards, Jessica comes out of the house and sees Adora and the children. Jessica is surprised to find out that Adora had another child, but Roberts doubts that the baby is his.

Later, Jessica tells Robert that she wants to have a child. Unable to conceive, Robert suggests adoption, but Jessica says that it would be difficult for them to adopt since they are not legally married. Robert figures to get Adora’s baby, and Jessica agrees.

Jessica is driving with her younger brother, Bernard, when they spot Adora and her baby on the way. Jessica goes to Adora and tells her that she has an offer, something that will benefit Adora and her children. Jessica takes Adora and her baby to a cliff, and there, Jessica reveals that she is Robert’s new wife. Adora becomes furious and accuses Jessica of destroying her family. Jessica tells the mother that she will give her money in exchange of her baby. Jessica hands her the money, but Adora throws the money back at Jessica’s face. Jessica grabs the baby, and after a struggle, Adora loses her balance on the curb. Bernard witnesses the altercation and tries to help. Adora pleads to Jessica to give her baby back, but Jessica just stands and watches as Adora completely fall to her death.

Margarita and her family is forced to move to a smaller house, and even she and Robbie have no other choice but to transfer to a public school due to financial constraint. There she meets a new friend, Rodrigo. Meanwhile, Gary continues to help Adora in raising her children, and Gary later admits to Adora that he loves her and her family. Adora, however, is still hoping that Robert will come back one day. As Gary tries to comfort Adora, Margarita arrives to see that Gary is hugging her mother.

Margarita goes to Rodrigo and tells him her fear that Gary was the reason her father left her mother. But Rodrigo assures Margarita that Gary is a good man as Gary is a friend of their family. Afterwards, Adora talks to Margarita and assures her that Gary is just a friend and that she still loves their father. The following morning, Margarita apologizes to Gary for questioning his kindness. She asks him if he loves her mother, but Gary tells Margarita that her mother loves no one but their father.

Since her mother is sick, Margarita asks Rodrigo to accompany her in delivering some laundry. On the way, Margarita sees his father with Jessica, his father’s new wife. Margarita hugs his father, but Robert pushes his daughter away and tells her to leave. Margarita cries to Rodrigo after she learns the truth why his father left, but Rodrigo tells her that she should forget about her father.

Margarita asks Rodrigo’s help in fixing Gary with her mother. The kids accompany Gary to Adora, and Gary gives Adora a flower. But just when Adora is about to attend to Gary, she succumbs to her cough. Gary rushes Adora to the hospital, and there they all learn that Adora has cancer which is already in the terminal stage.

In bed, Margarita and Rodrigo agree to escape the life of skin and guns behind. Rodrigo promises that after he breaks away from the gang, he will meet Margarita in the club. But after her grand dance number, Margarita sees no sign of her beloved, and the lady fears the worst.

As a child, Margarita enjoys dancing in school events. But one day, her father, Robert, decides to leave them as Robert suspects that Adora, their mother, is having an affair with Gary, a friend who drives a jeepney for a living. Margarita, together with her younger brothers, Robbie and Gabby, cries as they watch their father drive away. Later, Adora, who is currently pregnant, cries to Gary as she no longer knows how to raise her children on her own.

The following morning, Adora receives an ultimatum from their landlady regarding their delayed payment. Adora pleads for an extension, but the landlady warns them that if they fail to pay the rent, they will be forced to vacate the house. Adora later feels a contraction and is rushed to the hospital.

At the hospital, Gary attends to the kids while waiting for the doctor. They later hear that Adora has just given birth to a baby girl. Afterwards, Margarita sits beside her mother and their new baby sister, whom they named as Angeli. Then back at home, Margarita packs all her toys, including Lilet, her favorite doll. She asks Robbie to accompany her in selling the toys on the streets.

Margarita and Robbie end up earning money which they to use to pay the rent. Gary, while driving his jeepney, sees the two on the sidewalk, and Gary takes the kids home. Margarita ask Gary to not tell their mother that she and Robbie did not go to school. Gary gives her a few cash to help them pay the rent, but when Margarita refuses, Gary tells her that he will just take the remaining toys in exchange of the money.

Margarita and her brother arrives home to find their mother being forced out of their home by their landlady. Margarita gives the landlady the hard-earned money, and tearfully admits to her mother that she has sold all their toys. The landlady, however, refuses the money, and tells Margarita and her family to leave.

Margarita (Wendy Valdez) is a tough woman who, at a young age, experienced several difficulties in life. She was just a little girl when his father (Dick Israel) left their mother (Rio Locsin) for another woman (Elizabeth Oropesa). As the eldest in the family, Margarita shouldered the responsibility of being the breadwinner. She only has her childhood friend, Rodrigo (Bruce Quebral) by her side as she struggles through life’s difficulties. Along the way, Margarita will meet Bernard (Diether Ocampo), a rich and influential man who will eventually fall in love with her. Margarita will later find herself torn not only between these two men, but also between her dream of happiness and her desire of revenge.
