(Updated 3:16 p.m.) About 67 people have been taken to two hospitals in Makati City after a powerful blast hit the Glorietta 2 shopping mall on Friday afternoon.

A nurse interviewed by dzBB radio at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) said 42 people have been admitted, but could not comment on the extent of their injuries.

The report said that “as far as the nurse knew,” four people were already declared dead.

As this developed, radio dzBB said 25 people were taken to the Ospital ng Makati.

For his part, Alfie Reyes, corporate spokesman of mall owner Ayala Land, said that, “roughly about a dozen people were injured, with the possibility of some fatalities.”

“We are still under investigation and there are a lot of things that we do not know at this point. But what we do know is that an explosion went off within the premises of Glorietta 2 at roughly around 1:30 p.m.,” Reyes said.

Reyes added that, “We will extend assistance to all of the victims and if any of their families wish to reach out to us, we will do so (and help them).”

He said the mall area has been “evacuated” and that all of the victims have been taken out of the area. - GMANews.TV

The explosion which hit the Glorietta 2 shopping mall on Friday afternoon was not caused by an liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) leak, rather police information on the ground showed that it came from a bomb, the Philippine National Police (PNP) leadership said.

Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr, PNP chief, told dzBB radio that, “From our assessment hindi ito yung initially reported na LPG. Bale ito po ay isang bomba. But beyond that wala pa po akong masasabi dahil nag-iimbestiga pa nga.”

He said the information was based on the assessment of his ground commanders. - GMANews.TV

(Updated 2:55 p.m.) At least three people were killed while several others were hospitalized after an explosion of still undetermined origin rocked a Makati City shopping mall on Friday afternoon, initial reports said.

Police Director Geary Barias, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said initial information showed that the explosion emanated from the Luk Yuen Noodle House at the first level of the Glorietta 2 shopping mall.

He said it was apparently an “accidental explosion” of a liquefied petroleum gas tank, but added that “we are still verifying it.”
