One woman’s dream … would lead to her biggest test of all
Through the eyes of Dacmay, a young woman who returns to her native village after 14 years, we discover the poignant story of missionary Sister Adel. Dacmay relives the special bond between them and the events that changed the course of their lives forever.
Set in a breathtakingly beautiful rustic region, the story not only captures the natural splendor of the Philippines, but also the social adversities in a remote, ethnic village.
Sent to teach Christianity, Sister Adel encounters battles that continually test her will and determination. She confronts a village that resents her ways, and she faces the poverty and lack of schooling for children in the tribe. In the process, she forges a friendship with feisty Dacmay who, at a tender age of seven, tests the will of the strongest. And amidst this is the continuing conflict between local rebels and government soldiers that further hinder her mission.
Determined to improve the lives and uplift the future of the children, Sister Adel must take the roles of a nun, teacher, mentor, social advocate, friend, and even that of a mother¬ figure to Dacmay.
But her biggest test is yet to come when she falls in love. Will she unveil herself and succumb to a night of forbidden passion that would leave her torn apart by her faith, her bond with Dacmay, and her dedication to a village that would condemn her?
It all begins in the time of preparing rice paddies for planting, in that season of hopes and dreams called haw-ang.
